National Guidelines are made for those who set requirements for digital information for the built environment and for those who are affected by the requirements.

The guidelines primarily refer to concepts, processes and methods related to the delivery and use of information models.

  • The Guidelines include a list of terms with typical terms related to the delivery of information models.
  • It also includes a collection of methods for producing and applying information model deliverables. Methods for, for example, definition of CoClass-based properties or file names are included. Typical processes are described for project, supply and management processes.
  • Some processes recur in several life cycle stages, such as procurement, review and approval processes.
  • Delivery specifications in the form of templates and examples are included for deliveries of information in the form of 3D CAD models, drawings, documents or databases.
  • Templates and value lists are included to support users.

The guidelines refer to the entire life cycle of buildings and facilities but focus on instructions for project implementation.

The report discloses the target group adaptation of the Guidelines, the development of the administrative organization, the ease of use and the coordination with several related standards, initiatives and organizations.

The source information for the Guidelines is managed using Infopack, which was developed as part of the project (www.infopack.io). Infopack is an open framework for managing information. Information is "packaged" in open formats and can then be distributed in various forms as needed, the Guidelines' website is a form of distribution. It is also possible to develop web portals, apps for mobile devices, integrations with common data environments, etc., or traditional documents.

Information in the Guidelines is available through Gitlab in so-called repos. For the Guidelines, the SWE-NRB group is used on Gitlab.

The administration aimed at applying, further developing and improving the Guidelines took place from 1 September 2021 through the association BIM Alliance.
