An HVAC -system is largely designed in a digital three-dimensional environment. In Sweden the most common software programs for this design work are MagiC ad and Revit. C omponents with accurate measurements are displayed geometrically correct and given a number of properties. These properties makes it possible tosimulate HVAC -systems concerning flow of media, noise generation, heating power and other factors valuable for dimensioning, choice of products, building and maintenance.
Much of this information created by the HVAC -engineer is stored in specific IFC -PropertySets. Very little information is actually presented in the standard IFC propertySet. This makes it hard to in a standardized way to import information to other systems using IFC -format. Information connected to objects and systems are
more likely to be presented in general material- and work descriptions (Word or PDF format). Traditionally objects are presented on drawings using symbols and text. The IFC -files are therefore normally not containing much information and the most useful field of application is geometric check for collisions between installations and building parts.
This application concerns a project where we are testing a conceptual database to capture object information from the C AD program's IFC propertySet and further refine this information successively in the design and production phases. The customer then receives a digital twin, in the true sense of the term, upon handover
from the construction project.
The concept database used is structured with explicit information to facilitate the search and built-in system connections between different disciplines. This is also intended to be connected to an IFC viewer so that you can easily find where the objects are located in a building. One of the intentions of this innovation is to change the way of work in the industry changes by providing greater opportunities for collaboration in complex projects as everyone can gain knowledge of the whole. Detailed information is available for each contractor. In addition to this, we will try to consolidate all information in an overall "master database" that contains all created
information including geometric presentation.
