A lot of the work currently being done to stimulate and facilitate reduced carbon emissions in the built environment sector is directed towards the construction phase, and much of it is aimed at new builds and / or large construction projects. It is incredibly important work and focus considering the large part of the carbon emissions coming from the construction sector. But a big part of the construction works consist of smaller projects carried out in existing buildings.
All use of buildings and all construction work starts with the needs of an end customer or user, so it is in the analyses and decision-making processes for them that the greatest opportunity to make a difference for the climate can be found. Property owners can help their tenants make climate-smart choices that have a large effect. The sustainability simulator shall be able to facilitate that work and is primarily focused on office spaces in existing buildings.
The idea, a sustainability simulator, is a digital tool that will be offered to property owners and tenants so that they can map the tenant's needs against the property owner's offer and be able to assess how sustainable the tenant's operations will be in a specific office space together.
The vision for the sustainability simulator is that it can be developed for use in other types of premises than offices and upgraded with additional functions for the planning, construction and management stage aimed at a broader target group. The sustainability simulator can then form the basis of a business engine for sustainable property development that other actors in the built environment sector can benefit from and that contributes both to digital transformation and a reduction of the sector's carbon emissions.
The goal of the project is to develop a prototype for version 1 of the sustainability simulator that creates sustainable business value for tenants and property owners.
The sustainability simulator will assist tenants in the choice between office spaces and when planning them in a sustainable way together with the property owner.
