Traditional facility management is shifting towards operation and maintenance focused asset life cycle management (ALM) as sustainability goal fulfilment becomes increasingly important for tenants and company stakeholders. Meanwhile, the asset management sector is highly fragmented, supply chains are complex and real estate life-cycle phases are segregated. Currently, there are lacking number of frameworks for how to integrate emerging technologies with industry-compliant BIM-based FM supply chains. Hence, the asset management sector is becoming increasingly interested in new technological ecosystems including Digital Twins (DT), Internet of Things (IoT) and Blockchains, which could be part of the solution for interlinking work processes, stakeholders, and assets’ life cycle phases. These emerging technologies integrated with asset information model (AIM) could ensure secure and accessible data and visualization processing in a timely manner where owners execute the Asset Management Processes (AMP). Thus, the project's focus is to develope and evaluate a Blockchain enabled DT platform prototype for the realization of full potentials of smart ALM in the digital ecosystem. The aimed digital platform will establish an interoperable functionality development resulting in live, secure, transparent, traceable, and information rich DT applications and reporting tools for smart ALM.
The project is coordinated and undertaken by experienced researchers specialised in Blockchain, DT, IoT, and ALM from Jönköping University, TU Wien, University of Turin, and University of Huddersfield. Pythagoras AB and Plan B BIM AB will participate as industry partners and primary stakeholders. The project will be conducted over a period of three years with start on the 1st of October 2021 and is expected to be completed by the 31st of September 2024. The total amount of the grant requested from Formas is 2 595 840 SEK. C ollectively, all industrial partners will match this sum in-kind.
